Hyderabad, January 15, 2017: The ICFAI Business School case study, ‘Bradley Tilden’s Dilemma Following the Alaska Airlines-Virgin America Deal’, written by Ms. Syeda Maseeha Qumer and Prof. Debapratim Purkayastha, won the third prize in the prestigious John Molson MBA International Case Writing Competition. The competition, now in its 36th year, is organized by John Molson School of Business, Concordia University, Canada, to reach out to top case writers worldwide to obtain excellent cases for use in their international case analysis competition for students.
The case discusses the merger of Alaska Airlines and Virgin America, two leading airlines in the US and the challenges before Bradley Tilden, CEO of the Alaska Air Group, in taking the merger forward. These included the cultural differences between the two airlines, diverse customer bases, integration issues, and concerns over short-term profitability. This IBS case was used in the finals of the competition for students.
